The opening of the exhibition "Pēteris Martinsons. Drawings for Porcelain.” at Park Hotel Latgola

This year promises plenty of interesting activities dedicated to the best-known Latvian ceramist Pēteris Martinsons. From June 16 till September 10, 2016 Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre in cooperation with Park Hotel Latgola organizes the exhibition of the artist’s drawings “Pēteris Martinsons. Drawings for Porcelain.” The exhibition will be held at the entrance-hall of Park Hotel Latgola showing great values of art, which started here in Daugavpils.
The exhibition will present works of Pēteris Martinsons – drawings on paper – countless sketches for ceramic forms, but not only. These drawings were created in the period from 1980 to 2009. Drawings with ink were part of artist’s daily routine and ceramics exhibitions. Sometimes these drawings became sketches for ceramics created with admirable diligence and patience. Some of them were beautifully framed pieces of art. Some of them were just simple notes, reflections of senses and feelings on small pieces of paper or on the corner of paper.
Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre does remember Pēteris Martinsons and continues to organize different events celebrating artist’s 85 anniversary in his hometown Daugavpils and other places in Latvia.
